Identify who received the payment and who made it.
List the paid products or services with quantities and unit prices.
Enter tax, discount, amount received, payment method and any reference.
Verify the payment status, then use the browser print dialog to print or save the receipt as a PDF.
A receipt records money already received. It should identify the seller and customer, state the payment date, describe what was sold, and show the calculation from line items to the amount paid.
Include a unique receipt number and payment method or reference when available. Showing subtotal, discount, tax, total and remaining balance makes partial payments easier to understand.
An invoice requests payment, while a receipt confirms that payment has been received. Issue the invoice first when the customer still owes money, then provide a receipt after a full or partial payment is completed.
Keep receipts with the related invoice, bank transaction and tax records. Retention requirements vary, so confirm the rules that apply to your business and location.
