Pro forma invoice
A preliminary invoice-like document describing an expected transaction before the final invoice.
Example
Before shipping, a seller can show a proposed order of ten items at $25 each on a pro forma invoice. The buyer uses it to review the expected quantity, value and terms.
How it differs from related terms
A pro forma invoice is preliminary. It is not normally the final accounting invoice or proof of payment. A customs commercial invoice has its own purpose and may require additional shipment information.
